Not sure if bathing is classed as preening ,but no big deal.
One from pool no1 last Autumn.

Well that is the first time I have a seen a woodpecker bathing - let alone a juvenile - top shot John! Focus and colours look good, 1/125 sec and it looks pretty sharp, I would think there is some skill buta little lady luck to present the eye so clear

Nice image. Love the head angle and sharp expression. Also the bit of motion in the feathers

    Thanks both.
Yes Jon, one of abiout thirty shots in the series, so you can usually manage one that works.

What a corker! I don't see many with the top low light, low noise, bells and whistles expensive gear getting rare shots such this one which takes oceans of patience and dedication to match. Being honest, I have to say your colours are often a little off and sometimes your cloning leaves a bit to be desired but when you nail a shot like this the smile makes me forget. Well done John!

This is a beauty John! Love the movement and the sharpness. At first, I thought I might tone down the green foliage at the top, but the more I look at this image, the more I like it, as is. Well done!

(Only "about 30 frames to get one". I've just spent three days, and over a thousand frames, and not one nailed..)

This image is so much fun, albeit somewhat of a scary looking WP. Love the details and colors. I would definitely try a tighter composition if it were mine.
