Another dull day shot. The sun is very rare in these parts nowadays, but, I am happy, getting a 1DX delivered tomorrow should help with the constant low light situations.

    Thanks for having a look.

You will LOVE your 1DX!! You will not even think twice about an ISO of 1600 to 2500.
    A lovely image Will.
IQ is excellent and the bird is lovely. Your exposure is spot on.
Love the details in the feathers and the whites, red and blacks.
    Nice DOF.
I could see a version where the brightness of the whitish area in the BG on LHS of frame was reduced slightly.

Will this is nice but when you get that 1DX it will blow your socks off! The image is sharp on the eye but DOF renders the rest just a tad off, colours excellent.
The 1DX will sort that problem I guarantee it!
I am still amazed at the performance and I have had mine over 12 months - wouldn't swap it for the world.

Beautiful bird William, and captured well given the overcast day. Very nice eye contact, and smooth BG.

I wouldn't complain about the weather if I were getting results like this. A lovely capture of this handsome bird. The colours are great and the bird stands out well against the beautifully diffused background. Only nit from me is that the beak is slightly oof.

Hi Will, quite a sweet image, but it looks a fraction soft, not as 'crisp' as I would have expected. Personally I would have liked the green to have extended more on the LHS, if this is a set up then moving a bit more to the right should not be an issue. Think you could have gone to ISO2500 for more SS.

1DX hey, good for you, just make sure you set it up correctly to suit YOUR needs. Is the 500 & extenders MKII & MKIII versions? 1600-2500 ISO is probably your default here in the UK and very low, but just push it 6400, 8000, 10,000... do not worry providing it's exposed well. Do loose a capture through poor SS, you just need to think of maintaining that SS.

Hi Steve, My extenders are MkIII, but the lens is MkI.

To maximise the 1DX Will, you really need the MKII version of the 500.

I know Steve, but with buying the 1DX and the iMac recently, the MkII will have to wait for now
