Nice one Will.Good detail in the blacks and whites good.
What a pain the B&W birds are. Spent all yesterday taking rubbish shots of these,Pintail, Shelduck, and Shoveler.
    I,ll stick to brown jobs!
    Anyway- well done.

Good job on the exposure William. My guess is that if you were using your highlight alert, the whitest whites on the cheek and wings should have been blinking. At least thats the way I would have thought to expose this bird to get good details in the blacks, and with a reduction of the highlights slider, nice detail in the whites also.
This is a good example of how a bird with this amount of black and white should be exposed. Also another point is that when exposed this way you wind up with nice white whites as opposed to the more grey whites you can get from a shot that is under exposed. Nice details throughout. Well one

Thanks for the comments. Hi David, yes your guess is absolutely correct, that's the way I did expose.

looks good, I like the low angle. I would tone down the whites just a bit, they aren't over exposed but right on the edge. I'd also put a bit more space behind the eider. handsome bird

Hi Will, great eye level perspective, and you nailed the overall exposure. I do like the gold and blue of the water. Another vote for a little more space on the RHS.

I like the low angle, HA, exposure, bubble at the foot and comp wise I would add some to the RHS as well. Very well done Will.

Lovely shot Will suggest you have a look at the cheek and shoulder as it were lower the brightest highlights just a little and hey presto!
