Hi Jack. Lovely bird, BG and perch. Good composition. I am not familiar with the bird, so unable to comment on his colouring. The image just seems to lack a bit of punch?

    Beautiful Jack!

Nice catch! Good pose and perch, great BG. Nice head angle.

With the bird looking right I'd be inclined to crop from the left quite a bit, even though it would chop off the end of the perch. A "squarified" image wouldn't be so bad for the subject here.

The whites on the back of the head are a bit hot; I'd see if more negative exposure would bring back detail, but that's not assured. Exposing to the right is tricky when the subject has whites. Maybe a bit more down with blacks would bring in a little more contrast, or a very small amount of Clarity. Or less with Shadows...

But those are small issues -- overall a very pleasing image!

I would take Diane's suggestion of cropping to the left. To take care of chopping
off the perch, I'd remove some and move the end closer to the bird. Because of
easy background, 'fixing' the branch would only take a minute or two.

Good idea Doug! Focus drops off a little as you move left on the branch but I think it could be done.

This is what I came up with. I brought the exposure down a bit more, added a bit of contrast, an cloned out part of the perch.

Looks good! I might not crop the left edge quite so close to the perch, though.

This might be a personal preference, but I'd also like to see the perch on the right hand side,
    more toward the bottom corner.
