    Default Prothonotary Warbler up close

I was able to get this image of a Prothonotary warbler from my boat. The biggest issue I having while photographing these wood warblers is shutter speed. Even at mid day, I'm having to shoot at high iso and low shutter speed. At one point I was shooting at iso 1600, f5.6 at 1/30s. Not a good combination while in a boat. I'm a beginner with flash, but I believe this maybe my only option. Any good advice on what I can try?

    Hi Tim,

You did well capturing this little guy sharp at 1/50 sec. I'm having a problem with the spider web which is a distraction IMO. The composition works for me.

Thanks, Maxis. I had to throw a lot of images away because of the slow shutter speed. Very frustrating.

Try underexposing by 1/3 to 2/3 and overexposing with flash to compensate. See what kind of shutter speed you get that way and post a couple of pics using that technique.

Great find, I still have to see this species. Good suggestions above, maybe a bit less sharpening, the plumage on the back looks slightly oversharpened. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Axel. They are fun and frustrating to get a decent image of. However, they are the easiest of the warblers down here to get in a view finder long enough to press the shutter button.
