    Default Bufflehead in low light

Bufflehead stretching wings. Cloudy skies are great for photographing these handsome ducks

    Arash:

One of my nemesis birds. Just this morning they were teasing me at my local bird sanctuary. They would stay well out of reach, but occ. fly just close enough to temp one to fire off a shot or two.

Excellent pose, angle towards us, drops, white handling.

I might be tempted to try and left the darker areas, esp. the face, just a bit. I know it is accurate for this light, but might be worth a little creative tweaking.

    Cheers

I certainly do like it Arash! Beautiful bird, well captured. I love the hint of pink webs under the water.

    TFS!

Hi Randy, Black detail looks great on my screen BTW I see the full shades of green, pink and blue, if I raise them it won't look like the real life bird.

    thanks

I love the subtle colors in the face, really nice. Details in the underwing feathers are also well done. Overall, a very captivating image. You do such a great job with those higher ISO's. I've read your e-guide on Neat Image NR several times and use it on my own images, but your's are clearly superior.

Thanks John, the key here is getting the exposure right in the camera. If it is underexposed it would be difficult to bring all the subtle spectrum of colors and details in the blacks.

Also this kind of dynamic range at ISO 3200 is really only possible with the 1DX. I used the 7D2 in the same location and it just can't do it no even with best processing.

here you can see the original exposure in my DPP4 screen, you can see that I have only done very minor shadow/highlight (+3, -2) adjustments because the original exposure was good

The darks look good on my recently calibrated 5K monitor. Lots of detail in the darkest parts and nice colors in the greens and purples of the head. I'm sure it looks awesome in the full size file. Great looking wing flap from this handsome little drake and I like the falling drop of water. TFS

Arash, I think that you have done as well as possible with the darks and the whites without sun... Love the flap and the crop. a
