Known in the Falkland Islands as "Johnny Rook," these birds were photographed on Carcass Island.

Nice couple in some nice habitat, I like the HA of both and the eye contact.

Never seen these birds in the wild but did watch there antics on a tv documentary which was very interesting ,birds look good sitting in that green vegetation, I do like the different poses and both birds look very good.

Very scary looking birds! And on Carcass Island. Both birds look great as does the FG Vegetation. I would be tempted to tone down the brighter thistle flowers. Well seen, well captured!

Thanks Sanjeev, Keith and Glennie for your comments and suggestions.

The Johnny Rooks are indeed fierce raptors, but the name of the island where these birds were photographed is not as sinister as it seems. Carcass Island was named after the ship HMS Carcass, which surveyed the island in 1766.

This is really one heck of an image, Norm. I love seeing the 2 in the frame and they work so well with the wildflowers framing them. What time of year did you photograph these raptors?

Thanks Marina. We spent two weeks this past January in the Falklands, exploring 7 different islands. It was their summertime, and it was a wildlife wonderland.
