    An African Stonechat (Saxicola torquata) photographed next to the road in Rietvlei nature reserve, South Africa. Canon 1DIV, EF 300 f2.8 IS II + 2xTCIII, 1/800, f8, ISO 200, beanbag from car window. DPP 4 / CS6, cropped, de-noised and sharpened. Comments welcome.

    Lovely detail on the bird Gerhard. I like how the bird is framed within the image. The BG is a bit of a distraction to me. Nice pose and POV.

    nice pose and detail,lighting looks a bit harsh,agree on the BG being a bit of a distraction.TFS.

    Gerhard:

    The framing by the stems is excellent, good color harmony.

    The background is a bit bright for my tastes and somewhat overpowers the bird. Light is harsh, as Chris mentioned.

    Detail on the head and breast seems a bit soft.

    Was this a large crop?

    About 50 % crop compared to the original size. The dry grass in the back ground is typical habitat and relects a lot of light onto the subject and everywhere else.
