Okay, where to begin? This was not an easy shot. Virtually full frame. I had the converter on when it first showed up and couldn't fit the whole bird in the frame. I couldn't believe it would hang around whilst I removed the converter but it did. It was very dark. Resting the lens on the hide window many of the shots I took suffered from motion blur as the woodpecker dug away at the hole. ISO 400, f7.1 at 1/25 sec. Evaluative metering with EC set to -1. It was tight in the frame so I've rotated it slightly and attempted to add some canvas above its head, something I don't think I've tried before. It's not the best head turn but, at that distance and aperture the tip of the bill is already starting to get soft as it is. Was it worth it? Is there anything else I could do or should have done?
HI Sean You did very well here !!! Off hand can only think of going wide open with the aperture, anything for more shutter speed at this range !!! .... but you managed a sharp image.
You did crop the tail of the bird. In this case I don't mind since it looks like a deliberate cut and not a clip. The bg is clean, good head angle and I like all of the post processing !!! From your location you made the best possible image !!!!
About the one thing you could do and its not difficult is removing the light green area from top of his head, sort of looks like he has a cap !!! I like it a lot!!!!
