This is an attractive bird with a nice pose. Exposure and sharpness of the head are good. But more DOF was needed, and the massive structure above the bird is very distracting.

With just a little more DOF to add sharpness to the back of the bird I think you have a nice image, the head looks really good, I am ok with the trunk the bird fits in nicely.

The bird is handsome and you got the head sharp, but the conditions weren't quite right for making a great shot, as mentioned the busy perch with the OOF back/tail...just doesn't work.

Many thanks to everyone for their feedback. I had not realized the oof part hampers the photo so much, but that as they say is the breaks!

Here is another one, more recent. How does it compare to the previous one? (1/400s/f7.1/iso 800/1dm4 +500f4II/handheld/Jan 2,2016)

    Hi Ihtisham,
the 2nd post has a much better angle in terms of the bird, HA is almost perfect and the rest of the body parallel to the back of the camera. Details look good but it could use a bit more sharpening. It was a challenging situation with the BG (it always is when shooting under thick canopy). I am wondering if you could have gotten a better BG by moving a bit to your right (to eliminate the OOF trunk) ?

Hi Thanks Arash for your comments on my photos. You are right, moving my head might have eliminated the bg trunk and minimized clash of layers. Will try the sharpening. Many thanks! Ihtisham

The second one is much better but still has some problems as noted above. In addition, the bird's belly is hidden by the perch--a less than ideal situation. a
