    Default PREENING PAIR

While photographing brown pelicans in La Jolla, California, it became immediately apparent that isolating a single subject would create some challenge. Consequently, I tried to increase depth of field and capture more than one bird in the same frame. By and large I was unsuccessful; I did capture one pair with both in focus (one is slightly soft) and unfortunately I was forced to cut the right side of the frame very close in order to avoid another pelican. Canon 5D III, 100-400mm IS Mark II @ 320mm, ISO 640, 1/400 second @ f/18, 3840 x 2773, vertical image cropped to a horizontal format, Cloned out a few droppings on the roost (roost was clean following rain), January 18 2016 @ 10:30 AM.

Nice composition Steve! To me, however, the photo begs for more room on the right.
