Default Indian Shikra @ 3200 ISO with 7D II

I was birding at Ashtamudi lake and back waters in Kerala, India when I spotted this Shikra within the resort we were staying in. Here is an image at high ISO (couldn't have imagined this with the 7D original) but the 7D II did a fair job and paired with the 100-400 II (the IS is just fantastic) I could get away with the very low SS (hand held)

    Sanjeev:

This image does demonstrate the excellent IS, and good noise performance of your combination.

I like the bird overall, a bit steep of shooting angle.

Unfort., I find that the large white areas in the background, esp. the one over the head, really distract from the bird. I don't know if it would have been possible to move a bit to your right to try and minimize that problem.

    Cheers

Thanks Randy. The white area is the side of a building. There was a steep incline to once side so couldn't climb up for a better position. Behind me was the lake. This was the best angle.

    Hi Sanjeev,
this shot isn't working for me unfortunately. It's a handsome bird but the low contrast wing feathers have already lost detail and I font the BG too distracting. combine that with a less than ideal HA and I'm not sure...

Yes, a handsome bird and an image that is well-exposed and relatively sharp. But the setting is a very poor one that would prevent anyone from creating a successful image. What looks like a sawed off perch is also far less than ideal. a
