That is a very special image. I love the eye contact and the not quite square on mouth. He's watching you and listening for something else. The drops of water/melted ice on his whiskers and eyelashes make it special for me as well. What a lovely animal to encounter, no matter how brief.

Excellent detail and sharpness Steve, those little water droplets just finish it off nicely.

A beauty of a Fox, Steve - lovely portrait, wonderful inquisitive pose and great HA, I really like this!
Nice detail where it matters, good sharpening, colours look good to me. Great techs and the DOF works very well. My eyes are drawn to the beautiful facial features of the subject, eyes, nose, love the muzzle and I detect a slight "grin" there from the fox:) I am tempted to crop a tad from the bottom, just above your signature, because I would like to see less of that leg, WDYT?
Superb close-up, very happy you posted this, I took great pleasure viewing, thank you so much
Kind regards,

Hi Steve, love the detail and sharpness you have captured. The pose, the sparkle in the eye all add up nicely. Nicely done. The 100-400 II is proving to be one fine lens!

Hi Steve -- That is one fine image ! You have got lovely details and sharpness and as said above the melting ice on its face is a bonus . I like the slight adjustment by Rachel , takes it up a notch . Also a nice crop suggestion by Andre worth a try .
TFS !

A real beauty Steve - both the fox and your work.
However, in my mind it may be possible to make this even stronger. If you have any space on the right (as we look) of the frame then I'd like that to replace a bit of the negative space on the left. The reason is the direction of the light gives us a beautiful look at his right (as we look) eye and by moving him slightly to the left of the frame I think it would accentuate the side with the best light.
Just an idea, WDYT?

p.s. sorry about cutting through the signature
Mike

Intense portrait here. I like!
Good crop suggestion from Andre and also something to look into from Mike regarding better balance/placement if you have the space or don't mind creating some out of nothing.
