    Default Preening 1st winter cygnet

Had a trip out to a local pond the other day when we had a bit of sunshine to try and blow a few cobwebs off the gear. Not too much in the way of exotica knocking about but I did take a shine to this first winter swan.

Coot evicted from the left of the frame and a specular highlight cloned out.

This is beautiful Mike. I know why you chose this subject

Lovely browns and creams. Great IQ and like the pose. Low POV works well here

Only nit is the white ripple cutting across the back of its neck but thats how it was

Hi Mike, excellent IQ, and looks like the light was kind to you too. Love the low perspective, and I like the pose of the swan with the curved neck. Overall, well exposed, with good sharp detail. The blues and browns in the BG work well together.

Hopefully you have more preening images for next month's theme.

Absolute cracker Mike very high quality lovely colours. There is a lovely synchronicity of colour, I really like this very mcuh.
I don't know if you already have but if you could lower the luminosity of the base of the neck a little I think you would show more detail.

Thanks John, I do think there is a bit more detail to be extracted. In the TIFF exported from DPP the whites are around the 145 area at their brightest. I need to brush up on luminosity masks maybe, as my current way of working puts the whites in danger of going grey.
