    Default Resplendent Quetzal

Here's a frame from my just completed Costa Rica workshop that I co-lead with Greg Basco. The Resplendent Quetzal is one of the star attractions of any bird photography trip to Costa Rica, and we got a great look at a male and female. I find when photographing Quetzals that taking my camera off the tripod gives me the freedom to find shooting angles that people working from tripods are unable to get. That's how I managed to find a clean BG (which has had some clone work done in post to smooth things out).

Stunning bird, Doug. Beautiful light and wonderful feather iridescence you've captured. Like the lichen/moss covered perch.

Great classic frame of this classic bird. Good perch and bg. In my very limited experience these guys have seemed to like cluttered environments (except the one we saw on a telephone wire). Good work getting a clean shot of him.

Beautiful shot Doug! Very nice light, pose, and comp and I like the curving flow of the tail feathers. I'm impressed that you can hand hold that rig steady at only 1/125!

Just perfect in every way. Did you process in DPP? Amazingly noise free and sharp. Envious of your ability to Handhold at that slow shutter speed.

Hi Doug, your comp suits the pose and fits the long tail. I do like the curve of the tail, and the overall detail and colours. The perch isnt bad either.

Im not sure who has the longest tail - my long tailed Widowbird, or your Quetzel.
