Hi Joe, love the setting here, and with a great pose from the Egret. Well placed in the frame, and the size of the Egret fits the theme nicely. I did a page scroll from the bottom and thought eliminating the grass island below strengthened the overall comp.
Great image for the theme. I am in complete agreement with Stu on eliminating the bottom grass and going for a more pano look. I did exactly what he did before reading his comments!
I'd have left more room on the bottom than in the repost. :) A very nice bird-scape either way. How would having been one foot higher have helped this image? a

Hi Artie, thank you for viewing and commenting. Regarding the question you posed relative to one foot higher, after studying the image and asking myself what a foot higher would have done I think it would have lessened the foreground and increased the depth of the background. Above is an edit and repost reflecting your comments.

YAW Joe. The repost is better but I would go even wider as with my repost here. As for the foot or two higher, that would have given you some separation between the top of the bird's head and the BKGR grasses. Sometimes you can do that by pulling in the tripod leg or by getting closer. Or both.

ps: though only a small difference in the crop I feel that this repost is much stronger. In the same vein, folks might be interest in the "The BIG SECRET to becoming a better nature photographer revealed..." blog post here.
