    Default Barn owl in action

Such a joy it is to watch these birds venture out at first light to hunt, one sometimes gets lucky and gets the opportunity to watch and photograph during the day as well although it does mean a good 10 hour shift in the field ...canon 1d mkii 400mm 5.6 with a x1.4 f8 iso 800 1/1250 sec +1/3 ev Name: Barn-owl-(1-of-1).jpg

    Dennis:

I like the pose, composition with room for him to look and dive after prey. Nice color harmony. Soft light for time of day.

It certainly is true. You have to put the time in to capture good images consistently!

Are the undersides of the wings typically this soft gray?

    Well done

    Cheers

Hi Dennis, congrats on getting an excellent image of a barn owl hunting. The light is gorgeous and I like the composition. Not sure how big of a crop, or it's an IQ degradation a little bit with the 400f5.6+1.4X. Well done. Loi

Fabulous BG depicting the grassy habitat! I like the hovering pose too. Thee are a couple of masking spots around the contour of the subject, and a bit of noise on the wing, tail, and body but overall nicely done.

Love the habitat, eye contact, and hunting behavior. The bird appears to be over-sharpened to my eye.

Great to see a barn owl and love that pose. Is this a large crop? The PP isn't looking quite right and I think this image is definitely worth having another go at the PP.
