    Default Immature Aussie Wood Duck

This little guy caught me by surprise. I actually thought he was a girl, until I had a closer look.

This is one of those images that I should have, could have, didn't stop when I should have! It went from light to dark and back again. I settled for an in between version.

Weather was scuddy, dark cloud, then bright sun, then a shower of rain.
In ACR - Almost FF. Increased Exposure a tad and knocked some highlights out as well as shadows. Increased yellow, orange and green sliders in the HSL panel.
In PSCS6 - Cloned out some dots in the water, added canvas to the LHS and several curves layers. NR on BG. Cropped and smart sharpened for posting.

Nice results in difficult light. Though you made it look easy, as the little guy posed for you. I'm trying to find a nit. Okay. What about a bit off the bottom?

Very nice -- lovely pose and water!! I'd clone out the lightest areas right at the bottom and take a bit off the top. Love the detail on the duck and the reflection. Cropping any from the bottom would crowd the reflection.

Great image, Glennie! Nothing wrong with that Sigma lens.
As to Diane's advice on cloning, have you tried the Patch tool with Content Aware? It seems to work better than the Clone stamp, at least in my shaky old hands.

Jess, Thank you. I think my initial problem with the Sigma lens was operator error. The lens seems to work very well when the light is just right...and the subject is still, and when I use a tripod, and when I actually think about what I am doing!
I have tried the patch tool, but something has gone amiss with it. I must have inadvertedly changed it settings. I need to set it right again.

Beautiful shot. I think the green on the wing tip makes the image for me. I have the cousin of this lens (read: Tamron) and I think, for what they cost, they are nice lenses. Ok, I could use a little more speed, but oh well, my pocket says otherwise. Just curious, how do you identify this as a male one, Glennie?

Glennie, the patch tool doesn't always work for me (nor does the clone stamp..;-( but the patch never works unless I remember to use "Content Aware."
    Anyway,that that's a luuvelly duck.
