    Default Red Fox

Last week in Grand Teton National Park, I photographed several red fox and a cross fox; the color of this one was very pale and she almost appeared white at times. I tried to maintain her natural pallid coloration. I made hundreds of images and although the majority are sharp, most of my images have distracting backgrounds of downed trees, sticks, and hot spots. This is one of the few that has a pleasing background. Canon 5D III, 100-400mm IS Mark II @ 227mm, ISO 800, 1/2000 second @ f/8, February 13, 2016.

Did wonder about the colour on my first view but that's explained, fine looking Fox with a nice coat that you have captured very well, being picky it would be nice to see a bit more of it's brush which looks like a good one. Like the deep looking snow and the Fox in it's habitat, very well done getting this.

Hi Steve - Interesting about the light color. Processing looks good. I wonder if this was an instance where less dof would have helped. Not sure how far away you were from the fox and if opening up might have blurred some of the further bg a bit. I find the bg a bit overwhelming here though do realize it is the habitat. I think it is just the ratio of the trees to the fox in the frame and how close the fox seems to be to some of the brush. Any with more snow behind the fox to give a bit more separation? Looking forward to seeing more.

    TFS,
    Rachel

What a beautiful fox, it looks amazing and what an unusual colour. I like the image, I wish he had just turned his head slightly toward you.

She's a beauty, Steve and nicely capture image. Very interesting muted tones standing out well against the snow. Like the intense pose and detail.

Hi Steve -- very beautiful subject , i like the colours of the subject . I agree with the above suggestions , that head turn would have been great but that is part of the wildlife photography , good job on PP .

I like the overall composition and that the fox is fitting nicely into the frame created by the snow behind it, Steve.
Rachel has a good point about less DOF, especially given the almost perpendicular pose of the fox. Wide open would have been great here. I know the old 100-400 had a "sweet spot" at f8 but think the new one is quite sharp wide open as well?
Keen to see more of your images...
