This Great Blue Heron posed for me for several minutes at Ft. De Soto last spring. Added canvas on the right and on top.
    Nikon D4, 600 mm on tripod, 1/2000 sec @f5.6, iso 400.

All comments welcomed and appreciated. Thanks for looking.

    Hi John. Like the banded
    reflection lines on the bird.
Seems to be some patches in the colour on the left. Maybe from adding canvas ? No big deal.
    Nice bright image.
    Cheers
    John

Note- I echo Randy,s comments on the reflection. As I have said a few times its either all in or none. Just my view as t6hey can be difficult to slice and look right.

    John:

The blue water goes well with your subject. The exposure looks good, although I might tone the brightness down a few points.

How to handle the reflection in this situation is always a bit of a challenge. I love symmetrical images with strong subject and reflection. As the reflection quality lessens, I usually will end up cropping at least part of it away, trying to find the right break point.

I might consider consider cropping up from the bottom to just below where the lone white plumes end, and then adding canvas on the left to create a more horizontal format.

There isn't a right or wrong here, more a matter of personal aesthetics.

    Cheers

Nice pose and colors indeed are in a nice harmony here. I'd certainly crop off some of the bottom part since the reflection isn't that crisp. However, I can imagine you like this version as well and as Randy said it is nothing but personal preference. TFS.

I love the image and the reflection and would go the other way and add a little more canvas on the bottom. Bit it would also work to crop into the neck region and then you can have two for the price of one.

The image quality looks off, as though there is too much JPEG compression or something.
