Looking back through some old un-posted images, I've decided to try a theme-within-a-theme: a four-part series of seasonal small-in-frame shots. I'll start with Spring. This BTBW was captured in dull light at a county park in early May of 2014.

While I like the little bird, the unruly limbs distract for me....

I would crop some and crop some more so that we can enjoy the detail of the bird

    Thanks Dan and Neil.

First, Neil, the IQ of the bird wouldn't hold up to a large crop in this case. I have better images of this species.

But second, and more to the point: For me, a small-in-frame image is not just about the bird, but about the overall setting -- in this case the delicate spring leaves and buds, and yellow-green BG (too unruly for some, I'll grant you) -- with the bird as simply an ornament in the overall comp. Just my opinion.

I have to agree Bill. As I have said before its not vjust the bird. For me the vegetation is a bonus in this shot. And that bird pose is my favourite - spot on !!
    Like it.

The bird with those fine branches, works perfectly IMO. The BG helps him stand out, and the green sprouting leaves add to the IQ. What a fine looking specimen.
