Default Sometimes, Picture day is heartbreaking

I watched a family come in to surrender their dog yesterday. They are moving into a smaller place because of hard times and can't keep him. He's a big golden lab named Bear. He will live with them and they will handle him at the adoption events until he gets adopted. I almost needed a rain cover for my camera to keep it dry while I made his picture for the site.

He did get a good picture though. This, however is my favorite from the day.

    Meet Boomer

Cute dog and great pose. Maybe a bit less sharpening on head and paws. I hope he will find a new home soon. Is keeping a dog really that expensive?

I think it is more of an issue of space and whether the dog is allowed by the new landlord, but I'm not sure.

Sure can see why it was your favorite Jim. Beautiful dog and a very beautiful capture I might add. As Axel mentioned a tad over sharpened on the head but a wonderful image and I hope he finds a good home real soo !!!

Another beauty, Jim. Ted and I went to the store yesterday for dog and cat food, and like human groceries, the price is skyrocketing. Sadly, I think we're going to see more of these cases in the near future. Keep up your good work, Jim.

I just can't imagine the pain this family is enduring giving up a member of the family. The ggod thing is they didn't just abandon him on the side of the road. We carry a spare leash and treat so if we see a lost or abandon dog we can try to help it.

We were just talking about the rise in the vet bills after we got clyde back from his geri workup.

Thanks everyone. Boomer is great, he crawled up in my lap and soaked me with kisses when he came over to the photo area.
He also lost a bit of bladder control in his excitement, but it certainly wasn't the first time I've dealt with that! The joys of dog photography! ;)

Good news, I booked a private client that came by during the event :D

Your a good person Jim helping out by doing images of the dogs for the website. Better images will help these guys get adopted.

Black and dark colored dogs are much harder to adopt so doing them good in a professional looking image is more important then many might think. We recently adopted a black border collie/springer spaniel mix. About 45 pounds and just the most perfect dog. Knows how to heel, walks right with you, loves squeaky toys which is why BeepNogie will never come to visit. He was at the county shelter up until termination time and then a local groomer that helps adopt dogs took him into their shop - there for three months until my wife found him.

The fact this dog is 3 years old and so well behaved makes it a mystery as to why no one adopted him. The shelter told us dark and black dogs are hard to adopt. Now he has a good home and 10 squeaky stuffed-animal toys.

Great story Robert. I wonder why black dogs are harder to place. I suppose the exception might be Labs.

I have heard the black dog theory a number of places. When I lived in Kentucky, my wife and I volunteered at the humane society shelter. One of the hardest things we ever did in our lives as we wanted to take every one of the dogs home. But I heard it there and again here in Florida at the shelters. Our vet volunteers and she tells us the same thing.

Perhaps it is black hair on carpets is so noticable, black is considered evil in some circles, who knows. This is our second black shelter dog.
