    Default Bald Eagle

Yesterday we thought we would give Conowingo on the Susquehanna River a try to see some Bald Eagles. November being the best time, but there were some reports the other day of 10 or so. I followed this Eagle as he took off from a tree behind us and tracked him down to the river plucking this fish from the water with one talon, then circling back and up directly towards me, then passing to my left. C&C welcome.

    D4s, Nikon 500mm +1.4 TC, 1/2500, f 7.1, ISO 800, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley Gimbal head.

Removed some OOF wires from the BG in cs6. This is practically full frame. Cropped a bit off lower part of frame.

I like the BG and the wing position, not to mention the fish! I reminds me of my trip to Hanies, AK a few year back. Unfortunately here the IQ seems to have suffered quite a bit. It looks soft without much details to my eye.

I like the pose and concept but for web presentation it needs a round of sharpening.

I really like the BG and the incoming pose but the IQ of the eagle seems to be lacking.
I wonder why? You had lots of SS. Did you try to save the whites on the head?

Good questions, Gail. Agree there was plenty of SS, but looking the the original it seems as if there was some motion blur.
I did some correction for that, but maybe it was just beyond the point of recovery.
I did a small amount of selective SH on the bright side of the head.

that explains the IQ issue, unfortunately motion blur cannot be corrected with post processing.

I like the incoming pose, complimentary BG, fish and composition. Too bad about the motion blur. I would get back out there and try again.
