    Default Black Headed Gull

Not going to set the world alight with this, the Gull was just standing on this chain that linked various posts preventing access to the area behind, but it's clean & simple, the BKG is just murky water.

I assume this is in Winter plumage, but if the ID is wrong please let me know .

Thanks to those who viewed or posted a comment on the previous thread.

Quite the unusual perch! The murky waters served their purpose well as the dark BG has the gull standing out quite nicely. I probably would have went for a bit less space below and more above, subjective of course. Whites look great, as do the details.

I like the repost. The chain and background make a "salty" image. Nice details on the gull make this a fine shot.

    Steve:

I am not usually a fan of manmade perches, but this one is very strong from a graphic sense, and works well here. The chain is muted enough that it doesn't overpower the bird.

I like both the crops actually.

    Cheers

Steve, your techs are always perfect. Ordinary subject on a man made perch, but you made it interesting. May be there will be a use for this image somewhere commercially :)

This is definitely a winter plumage for black-headed gull. I'm fine with either crop. All looks good to me and I love the chain!

Beautiful Steve. Perch is unique. It has some nice, little, murky bits on it that match the OOF BG "murky" water. I prefer the second posted crop.

I like the rich BG, IQ, pose, details, exposure and composition in the repost works best for me. Very well done Steve!

Hi Steve, quite a 'stately' pose from this fellow. Excellent exposure on the Gull, as the white plumage stands out nicely, together with the feather detail on the wing. Did the perch not swing whilst the Gull was perched there. After comparing both comps, Im going for your repost. Great work mate.

    Thanks folks.

Hey Stu, sadly not, that would have been cool to have some motion blur in the comp, BTW I thought Axel had buried you after a walk, good to see you back posting.

That's outrageous Stu, I trust you've taken steps to ensure it does' happen again.

More to study... perfect exposure, as Stu wrote "stately pose", unique perch, pleasing composition. I leave thinking of the chain swinging and motion blur. Thank you for sharing, Steve.

I love photographing BHG, and you have captured this one very nicely Steve. Lovely whites on the bird which look real good against the darker BG. I dont mind the perch, and like both crops aswell
