Greetings. I've been away. From Haleakala National Park on Maui.
Never understood why sometimes flare appeals to me. Maybe it's just one of those songs of my own. A little NR and slight toning and a small horizon adjustment.
I've never understood why, in some quarters, flares are regarded as something that should be avoided. As in an image like this, they can be a good thing in my opinion. I probably would've liked the flare in this case on its merits as a visual element. Beyond that, though, it functions well in directing the eye toward that curve in the road. Well done, and it's good to have you back.
Michael,
I like the effect you have created, as well as the composition and the curving lines of the road. The presence of the car adds a "hand of man" element to it, which enhances the effect. Well done.

In this case, the flare added to the comp. Without it, so much would have been lost. Bright flare, soft fog/clouds, and very sharp road with car. Each works against the other in a good way.Good catch
I like the composition with the layered effect and the stark contrast. The curving road makes the image. Could you have included the entire curve in the frame?
Thanks for your comments. They are much appreciated. Gary, the road actually branches to the left (so the clipped curve is a bit of a cheat ;-). Though, in my thinking of a title the edge, distant island, the flare and horizon all worked into the idea of curves.
