    Default Ta-Da!

The weather forecast for last Friday suggested that the ponds along the Jersey Shore would be free of ice, so we headed off in search of waterfowl. The Hooded Merganser is always a target bird for me when I go there, and we were not disappointed in their numbers. But they generally kept their distance, as is their wont, and there weren't many places to get a low POV. I missed a few opportunities at flight shots, but I was prepared for this wing flap even if he was a bit far away.

One of my nemesis birds, I like you find trouble is getting close to these birds. Nice wing flappy, beautiful bird. Thank you for sharing, Bill.

Well done Bill - right place right time and ready! I just wonder if you could lower the luminance a bit on the upper feathers of the chest otherwise it looks spot on.

Your perseverance paid off Bill, bird looks good, and I like the way the that nice bg and the water merge together, very nice job.

Nice wing flap, although I usually prefer a "thicker" wing position. I like the texture of the feathers, especially the near wing. Good comp. The blacks on the head and neck seem smoothed out....NR run there by any chance?

I noticed that smoothness too, especially in the neck; even in the RAW file. I attributed it to the fact that he had just surfaced from a dive. No NR.

Hi Bill - Great timing and placement in frame works well. Nicely done. Very different temps today than just a couple of days ago!

    TFS,
    Rachel
