    Default Dunlin in winter

Taken today on the rocky Long Island Sound. I was finishing up photographing long-tailed ducks and had been watching a small flock of dunlin flying about. All of a sudden they landed literally at my feet. I could have reached out and touched some of them. It was fun to just sit there and watch them, be in the moment with them, but then of course I had to take some shots. This is nearly full frame. A bit disappointed by the shadow on the bird's tail, must have been another bird, but I don't think that it is fatal to the image.

I like the angled pose, frothy perch, setting, composition and water drop on the breast. My eye was drawn to the shadow on the tail but do agree that its not an image killer. Excellent image Grace!

    Grace:

Agree with Jim that the frothy water and perch very nice. Angle of bird, POV, exposure all good.

Yes, in perfect world, no shadow on tail, but it is a minor thing in the overall context of the image.

    What was your temperature like?

    Cheers

Excellent shot, Grace. The shadow is a little bothersome but not fatal at all.
Of course you can always mitigate the shadow effect with a little PP. work like this:

Gail a real neat little Wader that pops well from the BG,think it might be better without the shadow but don't think it was much of an issue. Do like the frothy water around the stones ,its good and I like it.
