    Default Ruddy Duck

Yesterday we found a number of ducks on some of the ponds near the Jersey shore. Image captured on Silver Lake. This Ruddy stood out for me, even though there were other colorful ducks, such as Northern Shovelers and Eurasian Wigeon, because of her size ( could fit in your palm ), and that she behaved as if she was equal to the other ducks even when 20 or so Canadian Geese landed practically on top of her. She dove under for a second, then resumed grazing on pond plants. C&C welcome.

    Geoffrey:

Excellent POV, really like her intense stare, drops, sharp, well exposed, nice catchlights.

Non conventional placement in frame works for me.

    Cheers

I like the eye contact, wet bill and DOF. Comp wise I would place the duck more on our left and add an equal amount on the right to see more of the ripples in front of the duck. Nice image Geoffrey.

This is a real nice Ruddy image, Geoffrey. I like the wet bill and colors. A few things leaped out at me on the left side of the frame as possible cloning, look like repeat patterns. And I would personally like more room on the bottom of the frame. The eye contact is great and of course, water droplets on ducks are always a nice detail.

Thanks Grace. No cloning was done on this image. I do see what I think you're referring to though.

I love the DOF you achieved here. Bill and face are nice and sharp throughout.
I would like to see a bit more room below, keeping the duck in the same position.

    Thanks Gail.

There was quite a bright ripple/wave just below where I've cropped. A little distracting.
