A few Purple Heron
A few Purple Heron
Hi Neil, Its always great to have more than subject in your frame, and nicely spaced out. Unfortunately, the angle is a bit steep, and there is too much obstructing branches around the nests. Looking at the Herons, I feel these are actually Grey Herons, as they have the black cap on their heads.![]()

It's nice to see the nest but the steep angle and the busy environment with obstructing branches is holding it back. all the birds appear a bit soft to me
Please note you are only allowed one image per 24 hours, I kept your last one and moved this one to ETL.

Cropping in from the sides here would help a little with the clutter of branches, or even doing some cloning cleanup there. My eye wants to see the branches at the top of the frame have some breathing room, to end before the frame, and to see the nest at the bottom of the frame be less cut off. The arrangement of elements here suggests a vertical composition.
I don't mind the occasional steep angle, as most birds perch in trees that are taller than I am, but it's a good point that it doesn't make the ideal portrait.
The first thing that strikes me about this one is that the overall contrast is high but with the midtones more lacking in contrast and detail than is ideal. The color balance is also on the blue side.
And you don't have an embedded profile. My tutorials in Educational Resources explain why that is important, and it is such an easy step to incorporate it.
