Bird attracted with peanuts at set-up in my backyard. He did not land on my set-up but a broken tree along the treeline of our property.

I like the pose, light on the bird and the excellent details, Gail. Common bird but hard to get them posing.

Hi Gail, what a perfect pose and HA - he posed nicely in your studio. Ive always liked the blues on these birds, and the finer plumage shows up nicely. I really like the colours in the BG, and how they blend in together.

Wonderful details and colours, I like it very much. I hope you get some more there that is a lovely setting.
I did download it and applied a luminosity mask and lifted the darker elements a little bit, I like it but you know the colours better than I.

One of our most beautiful birds, often neglected. Great pose and fabulous background that does indeed look like a studio backdrop.

Agree it's very much like studio lighting, Gail. You also captured a very nice subtle hair light. What an exceptional pose and beautiful BG.

    Gail:

I have mobs of blue jays here, but have found them singularly uncooperative re: posing, so well done! Lighting, pose, great.

This is a very subjective thing, but for some reason I like it when the subject is looking towards the lighter area of the frame. (towards the light, so to speak). I believe it is because our eye is drawn to the lighter areas of the frame, so it seems most natural to have the bird facing that way. Now if the birds just understood simple compositional rules, it would be easy!

I should be out shooting, and not typing, so forgive my artsy comment.

    Cheers
