Hi Richard, Good look back pose, and I like the thin perch. Comp wise, I would move the bird more to the right a bit, and add more space on the left, giving it more of a traditional landscape format. With regards to sharpening, yes it is over sharpened. As soon as you start seeing 'crispy' bits - those tiny shiny artifacts that we see around the beak, eye, and on the chest, then its showing signs of over sharpening.

Hi, Richard. I hesitate to disagree with someone as accomplished as Stu Bowie, but to me, there's plenty of room in the frame. It accommodates the small branch well. More space on the left would just be emptiness. If you do want to add some space, perhaps on the bottom to give the long branch a bit of room. A beautiful bird.

Richard I'm fine with the composition ,the bird does look over sharpened to me.

Thank you all for the help. I think I will start to sharpen less as I thought it might be a touch to much. Thank you all for the cc

Hi Richard! Lovely image...nice pose, good perch, very pretty and complementary BG. Agree with above comments on sharpening.... when the feathers start to look like "little sticks", it's time to back off a bit. As to comp... I'm ok with as-is or you might want to consider taking just a bit off of the top negative space.

Richard, I think everything has been said about the sharpening. I don't mind the crop as is, or as Sandy said maybe just a little less off the top.

More to the point is how you are sharpening -- or, more precisely, when. Shooting raw? What converter? Sharpening at capture? How much? Sharpening in PS? How and how much? Sharpening the JPEG after it's created?

It's easier to critique, especially for for detail if an image is posted at the max size -- 1200 x 1000 and 400 KB. Yours is only 124 KB and heaven only knows what Flickr is doing to it beyond your control. It's much better to post directly as just discussed in the thread about the Great Tit.

Comp-wise, I'd consider taking a little off the top and allowing more on the bottom and left, if you have it. Nice bird and pose. Worth another look at processing.

Diane, you are always full of good advice! I never thought to even ask about "how" the image was sharpened.
