    Default Theme: Iceberg Swimmers

Taken last winter when there was snow and very cold temperatures. Not the angle I prefer but i was on a small drawbridge and couldn't gain any access below, believe me i was thinking about my kayak, but that didn't amount to anything further. Passage for this pair of hooded mergansers was limited due to solid ice but they would dive under and pop up in a clearing. brrrrrhhhh...
Processed in DPP, burned in a few areas of snow blobs, decreased shadows.

I can rarely get close to a pair of them, so angle is understood. Ice is cool and the exposure is good.

having both in the frame is great but the angle is too steep. Sometimes the conditions just aren't right for making an avian photo so we have to settle for a snapshot to save the memory! I hope you see them again in the right condition

POV already mentioned, but I like the detail on both birds swimming through the icy waters and with the snow present you can 'feel' the temp.

I think you have captured the conditions perfectly, angle could have been better but hey perfect world would be great, thanks for giving us a look.

I don't hate the perspective. And I love the pair. Brightening the eye of the male would help this one a bit. As would lightening both faces a bit--NIK CEP Detail Extractor would do well there. How large a crop is this?

Hi Artie, here's a link to the RAW file. I'll give a try to your recommendations. thanks https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2kp1rfb87...CIYCI0y-a?dl=0
I would guess it is about a 50% crop. I'll repost later.

    Hi Ann,

Unfortunately you made a big mistake here and shot in sRAW (small Raw) format. Small RAW is a stupid and redundant feature in Canon cameras, it shrinks the RAW file to save memory and in the process it wipes out the details. There is nothing you can do to recover this.

never set your camera to sRAW!

Nice to have them bot in the frame. The snow and pieces of ice add interest. Sometimes it is impossible to shoot at low angle but I would still take the shot.

This image has everything except the angle.
Great catch that Arash noticed you were at sRAW. Fix it QUICK.
Artie has an e-manual on the 1DX. Might be a good buy for you,
    Gail
