Default Yellow Legs~ Cloudy Dawn ~ High Key

    Attached Images Attached Images

I was photographing yellow legs early one cloudy morning and as I watched this individual through the viewfinder, the sun, which was behind the clouds and just cresting the dunes behind me, burned through the overcast for just a moment and illuminated the subject rather nicely.

In properly exposing the subject, the already white water (due to the overcast) was blown out, leaving this high key type of image.

    Nikon D2Xs, 500 AFSII lens and TC14EII. F7.1 ISO 500.

    Great Photograph

    Jim,

I love the "high key" image with the reflection and the grass becoming less and less as you progress in the way the bird is looking. I think this is an excellent image partly because of the blown out water/sky. I will be interested to see if some of the people who will look at the technical aspects of this shot will think.

    Thanks for posting.

    Hi Jim,

I really like the reflection in this High Key image!I do feel the image could use a tiny bit of CCW rotation though.
The warm light makes this different from most High Key images i have seen.

    Greetings,

I think I remember this image. I like the composition and idea. I'm wondering what it would look like if the bird were a little bit further to the left in the frame.

Very elegant and artsy. I like the way the grass just tapers off to nothing. The bird is nice too ;)

    Axel.....

I think it may well work a tad better if the bird were a bit more left than it is currently. I have plenty of right side left in the original frame, so I'll have to give that one a try.

Jim, I like the composition very much. My only suggestion for web presentation is to maybe include a 2 pixel black border. The subtle transition from the slightly tinted background to the white of the forum keeps grabbing my eye.

    Default Question

If the bird is moved to the left and the right of the bird keeps getting more grass and land, wouldn't this detract from the bird and it's reflection?

This from a person who has the artistic ability as the last piece of grass on the left! :o

Love this high key image Jim! Beautiful light and reflection. I would leave a little more space on right and cut it from left.

Nice high key image Jim. I like these. Nice touch with the reflection and weeds declining in density and height. I also would like to see the bird a tab bit more left. Seems a bit tight to the right side. Ideally I would have loved to see more grass to teh right, also diminishing in density and height with some white space to the right of it. Making the bird appear it's on a grass island. That would take this very nice image over the top..
