Default Bohemian Waxwings - First 7DII Image!

Yep, got myself a new piece of gear to play with. A good post-Christmas deal I could not resist. My first subject to test-drive it with was non other than one of the most photogenic species out there - the Bohemian Waxwing. Lots of them too! They had a couple of favorite trees to come down to, the trick was simply to wait for another round of feasting. I was not able to test the camera to its full potential, but I can tell it is a whole new beast compared to the original 7D (which I love BTW, despite its shortcomings). The AF felt much "snappier", and the ergonomics will take a few outings to get fully comfortable with...but looking forward to a long and strong relationship with it!

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, almost FF, a few small twigs strategically pruned in post.

Beautiful image Daniel. Congrats on the new gear. The grip greatly improves the balance and ergonomics IMO.

Thanks Karl, John. Yep, I agree about the grip and indeed one is attached to the body.

Hi Daniel, I love this photo! What struck me first is the nice hue or orange in the bg. Then the perspective on the lower bird. And the OOF upper bird ads so much. An admirable work of art :)
