Hi Karl, I like the setting, makes for a nice change. Although you were geared up for BIF I thing you could have easily gone to 800 and increased the DoF to say f/7.1, still retaining the SS.
Adding a slight midtone Curve and dropping the highlights brings back a lot more depth & detail, especially in the FG ice & water.

Hi Karl, am away so the laptop is not ideal, but it does look better, anything more may be considered more 'personal' refinements. Being quite a bright day I would assume the blues to be more Cyan, but again, you could pull that back, however this would be a 'refinement' . WDYT, is it better, an improvement?
Nice alert pose by the Gadwall. Well done.. Did you capture the takeoff?
Thanks Robert. Yes, I did and posted it earlier right here, I believe.

I like the pose, sharpness, composition and icy setting. No ice on the lake or river down here yet but that will change in a week. Repost looks good Karl!
What a cute duck and I like the ice + water setting. OP looks better to my eyes Karl.
Hi Karl, love the jagged edge of ice, and the alert stance ready for take off. I prefer your OP.
Would you like to include this in the monthly theme, as you havent posted 'theme' before your title?
