Default Two Birds - One Perch

    Attached Images Attached Images

A pair of Scaly-brested lorikeets sharing the same branch. I thought the perch was a bit unique, but unsure of the two birds so close together. (two headed bird perhaps?)

In ACR - Highlights, whites, shadows and blacks all pushed to the right. A smidge of clarity and vibrance. HSL panel - luminance sliders in orange, green and aqua.
In PSCS6 - Quick mask for levels adjustment on birds only, cropped (big crop - 33% FF) resized and smart sharpened.
Image taken at 5.15am (quite dark) New years day.

Great image Glennie. One preening and the fact that they are so close together makes me feel that they are pretty good companions. I can't think of anything that I would change but I am sure you were wishing for more light at that time in the morning.

Glennie, the image for me speaks of the pair bond, not one bird two heads, that intimacy it conveys that closeness, love the colours of the birds and that perch is cool against the background ,those subdued pastels show the pair so well. I really like this mate!!!! Glennie you know where I am just learning, the one thing I feel we do is try to crop too far, this is being hammered into me at the moment. So often one simply cannot get closer for so many reasons but I'd love to see this image if you had of been able to capture this at full frame,I think it would be gorgeous. Glennie for me I think you did so well SS is only 1/400 wow so as someone learning that is about as much as I can give you. The image frame and crop really appeal I don't know much about post as you know looks great to me they pop so well,so that basic thing of trying to get closer is really all I've got, Had to comment though, it's so lovely so endearing,I'm soft I guess. Oh one more thing your point of capture also appeals cracking mate the foremost bird, preening that splash of red balances things for me against the rear fella's beak

    thanks for sharing kiddo

Thanks Stu. I've put the FF in the post now. You can see I had plenty of room all the way round, but nothing much in it of interest. As you mentioned, "getting closer". I bought myself a 600mm, and I still can't get close!

Another gorgeous one! I love the previous BG but this one is even better! I love the arch of the perch with the birds right at the top. Wonderful juxtaposition of the two. You are getting some very sharp well-detailed images with great color!

Would be nice to see a little more of the face (or more like the beak) of the front one but we get what we are given. All in all, it's spectacular!

    Keep 'em coming!

This is one of those that make me grateful that others post on this forum. It's a gift from you to me, as I see it. A pleasure to see. I'm going to go back up the page to see if I can find a nit to pick, as I think it's part of my job. Let's see . . .

    Hmm. Didn't find one.

There is something very nice about the bird's tail hanging down in the space under the perch. Even though it's small it acts as a visual counterbalance, anchoring the birds to the perch.
