Default Last image of 2015, Woodie Woodpecker!

Male Pileated woodpecker. I photographed him near Victoria, BC. There wasn't much light so I had to lower my shutter speed but the 400DO II is so light I could easily hand hold at slow shutter speeds with IS set to mode 1. Photo was made from a blind.

1D-X 400 DO II + 1.4X III. ISO 1600. f/5.6 at 1/200 sec. Hand held from blind. processed with DPP 4.3

Hope you like it and happy new year everyone!

    This is excellent Arash.
Great depth to all the blacks.
The lichens on the perch are great.

Oh am I envious, Arash. This being my nemesis bird. A perfect pose, detail, perch and light. Like the damp bark.

    Happy New Year to you.

Love the dark and wet tree limb with the moss and lichen. The colors are so superb, detail, clarity! A treasure for sure, excellent Arash.

Beautiful! I love the perch, and the fact it is wet really brought out some good colours from it. Nice pose from the subject, with some really appealing blacks. Sweet BG.

    Happy New Year Arash!

WOW! I like this a lot, tack sharp at a relatively slow shutter speed and excellent exposure
