    Hi all!

    Merry Christmas and happy new year :)

    This Sunday: photos!

    This beautiful duck ("Moretta" in Italian) is photographed on Lake Viverone (province of Biella - Piedmont)

    Regardless of the time in terms of quality it could be the maximum obtainable with the Canon 7D?

    Sun behind
    Time exposure proof moved
    Sunset light on the subject
    Camera on tripod equipped with head gimbal at the minimum height from the ground

    What are your impressions?

    The noise seems to me very correct and in post production I tried to extract all possible details (without changing lights and contrasts)

    Waiting for your comments!

    Hello Gianluca! Very nice! What a lovely duck with a pony tail.

    I might think about cleaning some of the spots in the water and maybe a CW rotation. I know it was there and I don't know how I would fix it, but I 'm not fond of the second eye reflection. The white feathers nearest the front seem to lack a little detail. Is the stripe through his face a reflection? I might also consider lightening up the bow wave a little.

    This is a very fine image and I wish it were mine.

    True, I could remove the reflection but it would be totally natural!
    For feathers .. maybe I exaggerated with the sharpness?
    The reflex is caused by the sun and the quay of the small harbor behind me

    Very nice! He (she?) looks like he/she is happy to pose for a picture! Good points raised by Glennie. And I really like the way you posted the 100% crop and the full version -- that helps a lot in evaluating an image. I'm not familiar with GIMP for processing -- I'm just curious how much you have done for bringing out detail in the darks and lights. There is some noise or grain in the background (the darker areas in the water) and a look of a little more noise reduction than might be best on the duck. It could be difficult to balance the two. I'm more tolerant of noise than many people, and prefer it to the smoothed look of noise reduction.

    It may be that the noise in the original capture is a bit too much to remove. But I don't know what you did.

    There was another post recently where someone was new to it and wanted to find some help. I know it must not be easy to write in a second language, but maybe you could suggest some tutorials for him?

    Hi Gianluca I know this duck this is a wonderful image of him,ahh and sunshine what's that??? I love the image i'm new so way behind you guys but learning. The only thing that grabs me is the line of light just below the eye it might be natural but it grabs my eye.
    take care

    Hi all

    @Diane: This is a male
    For the differences look this:
    https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aythya_fuligula

    I am understanding evil and yet I wonder if I can make a small tutorial on GIMP?
    I have not reduced the noise, I merely use the unsharp mask and adjust the levels

    @Stuart Philpott
    That bright line is a reflection of the sunset sun

    I tried to reduce the background noise and to bring out details in the plumage Duck clear.
    What do you think?:

    Looks good to me!

    Yes, a GIMP tutorial would be good. Post it here as a separate thread and I can make it a sticky at the top of all the posts. I don't have posting privileges in Eager to Learn and have to ask someone to post my tutorials there.

    A beautiful bird in a beautiful photograph. I am impressed that you captured the bird with a good composition, especially as it was moving. I don't have enough expertise to be able to offer any useful suggestions, but just wanted to drop by and tell you I like your bird. Happy new year.
