    This Red Diver takeoff is from a saltwater marsh in Iceland taken in June of 2012. C&C welcome.

    D3s, Nikon 500mm, 1/1600s, f 4, ISO 800, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley Gimbal head.


    A little space added to the right side.

    Good take-off captured, and in handsome breeding plumage. A little more SS would have stopped the action more, if you had had enough light, but the blur gives it a dynamic feel. I assume this is what we would call a Red-throated Loon.

    Thanks Bill. You are correct. It's a Red-throated Loon, also known as a Red-throated Diver, and I've heard Red Diver used.

    I like the running pose and the soft light and the handsome loon! Using a higher ISO would have enabled you to get the feet sharp and the wing position could be better ideally, especially the near wing.
