I took this by pre-focusing on the area in front of the nest box and as soon as I saw her approaching started firing away.
Cloned out the edge of the nest box on RHS.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks.

    Hi Gail,
Impressive image. Good sharpness where it counts and the blur in the wings conveys motion. The black and white moth stands out nicely as prey. Sweet background. Well done.

Nice work, Gail. Your pre-focus hit the head just perfectly. Great wing positions on bird and moth. And beautiful BG.

Hi Gail, This is a stunning photo in all regards. What excitement that must have been to have moth and bird fly into the area you pre-focussed! Merry Christmas Gail! Thanks very much for all your help and encouragement on my posts in 2015 :)

Gail your pre-focusing certainly worked on this fine shot, like the down wing beat ,the bg is beautiful, excellent job.

All the very best to you and yours over the Christmas period and the New Year.

    Regards Keith.

Nice flight shot of this good looking bird, Gail. Excellent sharpness and the butterfly in the beak is a big plus.

Very well done with the full down stroke, great BG and moth. You pulled it off with the pre focusing tech really well.

Wow!! What a great capture Gail. Awesome wing position and colors and the little butterfly/moth in the beak is over the top. The green BG and the killer details makes this one a great contest candidate :) A very beautiful and strong image. Did you get this in Alaska? I saw a post on NS that looked like the same bird and prey.
Hope you are having a happy holiday

Gail, thanks for gorgeous imagery and a timely example. Timely, because I'm trying to stop wings right now, and 'guessed' that 1/2000 would do it. No wonder the hummer folks use 1/16th power flash.
