I am not an animal photographer so don't usually post on this forum, but I thought you might like to see this seasonal (northern hemisphere) image. The mouse was only able to find grass to eat as everything else was covered by snow. I took this image while waiting for geese to fly past. I think he was quite pleased to see me as I just happened to have some seed in my pocket.

Pretty cool David, it caught my eye. Maybe a wee bit too much contrast, Nice one.

Hi David - Nice to see you posting in Wildlife and you are always welcome. There's a cute factor to this and I like the snow bg with just a few blades of grass poking through. I agree with Will that it seems a bit too contrasty and would look at opening up the midtones as well. Hope to see more from you in Wildlife. Btw January's theme is rodents.

An interesting and unusual take with the snow and the grass stalks.

Technically, I think you've suffered from the slow shutter speed and the overall look is a little 'over-processed' as Will mentions above, but I do like what you were going for here.

Oh my, this is SO CUTE!

I have a very soft spot for those little chaps, so many thanks David for sharing this wonderful frame! Also, thank you for carrying some seeds in your pocket, this Field Mouse must have had a true "field day", LOL!

May I suggest you try some more "animal photography" and share again in this Forum - despite the slow SS and a bit of a heavy hand with PP work this is such a delightful capture, love this little mouse among the sparse vegetation and whiteness of the snow

I truly enjoyed viewing and sincerely hope to see more from you, shall look out for your images in other forums too:)

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi David, little nits covered, I like the nice puffed out pose that this little chap gave you in the cold. Have you got snow in Norfolk it's warm in Lincolnshire.

Thanks to all for your kind appraisal. I am on my tablet at the moment but when I get the chance I will make a repost with your suggested tweeks. No Keith, no snow here, record temperatures, if that mouse was out now he would be lying on a deckchair with cool drink to hand. Took this last January in the only bit of snow we had all winter.

Hi David -- Yes it does look high on contrast and a bit oversharpened to me but i liked the settings and the subject is way too cute , enjoyed viewing this image .

Very cute subject, head on pose, low angle, and blades of grass poking through the snow all make this image for me. The other comments cover the processing tweaks I would suggest; nothing more to add. Lovely little guy here!

Hey David, I was hoping that this one would be as good as the thumbnail. It was not. it was better! I love it as it is too cute. I'd love to see a repost that has been de-saturated a bit, especially the RED tones in the fur. Love those pink feet. Thanks a stack BTW for your membership support. a

Hi David, it's always great to have an additional bonus when you are shooting something else, just means the time put in, was well worth it.

Normally I am not a big fan of shooting down, but in this instance it works well because the grass shoots are not obstructing the face. Agree on dropping the saturation and I would also ease off on any Black or Contrast added. No idea on the kit used, but if you can, then a higher SS would be better, especially HH. Is this a large crop or FF? If the IQ can take it, then I would loose a good inch on the left, for me there is a bit too much dead space there.

Yes to a great perspective to get over the grass. I would only crop from the left if I could had (or could create) an equal amount on the right. a
