I waited for him to came up from the familiar pool his parents taught him about..
It was dry for many years, now they drink and not wade yet- water is too precious.
We had some rain in Zululand- far from enough- just good to fill the holes and have some green grass sprouting..

The small family unit lingered, then occupy the road as only Rhinos with time on their side can...

Will post some more of this magic and quiet time, captured this Sunday.

Hi Andre, i agree hope will be the least that we should loose for this species even if daily news might tell us the opposite ......
Lovely head on shot and nice low POV . The square crop does work good and the shrub is somehow adding to the scene . Lovely detail and texture in the Rhino, colors do look good to me , i can see a slightly change in the WB . from green to slightly magenta as there is some green appearance in the rhino , at least for me !!!
What i would suggest is going a bit darker overall fir a bit more depth in the image .
I tried to multiply the green and red channel , masked with the blue channel at 80 % opacity , for me it works better ... give it a shot .
Or try to just lower the exp with the red channel as mask attached , or hit the image with the new "Dehaze" filter set to 66 but applied through the red channel .

I hope not too many options and suggestions from my side , all for sure flexible in work progress just play around and see what you like best .

    Nice one Andre

Hi Andre - Lovely low pov look at this rhino. My first reaction upon seeing it (and before reading Andreas's post) was that it looks a bit light and could go a bit darker. It would also bring out a bit more detail and texture in the hide. Lots of ways to get there and definitely worth the time.

    Rachel

Hi Andre -- What a lovely animal ! The low angle makes this image for me and i am fine with the colors here , as far as the framing is concerned , it is a bit tight but not a deal breaker for me .

Thank you Andreas, Rachel, Haseeb and Sanjeev for comments!

Did two RP's, the first with Channel blending as suggested by my technical Buthie..
In second, lowered exposure with Red channel as mask..
Could not find the new Dehaze filter in PS- went online..$39.. the way the Rand is going... (thank you, mr Zuma)
No selective sharpening for web, just done overall.

Will do 2 posts, you decide which is best.

    Thanks for input!!
    Regards

    Andre.

Hi Andre ..... the dehaze filter is in ADOBE CAMERA RAW under FX , you can use the it via the filter menu in PS CC . No 39 $ ..... just know where to to find it .
With exposure the same ..... go to Filter - Camera raw - and then use the exposure , do not use the exposure / offset stuff in PS as adjustment layer .

Hang on buthi i will come up shortly with my versions , i am not sure if you followed my way correctly .

HUHUHU Channel blending method with Red/ green multiplied and masked with blue channel to avoid the multiply in the darks . Mask blurred with 50 px radius , opacity set to 80 % .

Hallo Buht this is a version with - 0,3 exp and Dehaze filter at 66 via Camera Raw filter , all made through a lighter red channel as active selection , means the filter is applied through the mask and not that the mask is added after the filter is applied , is a different approach !!!!
The red channel ( mask ) was screened with itself with 66 % ........

    Hope this helps Buthi

Oops so many versions .. sorry Buthi that i made scrambled eggs in your brain , LOL .
All very easy& simple edits for me , you think too complicated .... or i am too complicated with my edits .. donīt know .

Your last version does look ok , if you like it then it is ok .
I would rather prefer one of my versions due to more texture in the hide and more depth in the HL . But it is of course a question of personal taste , so do not stick your head in the sand , just keep going and experiment .

But you need to get a better knowledge of PS my friend , BTW have you found the " Camera raw filter " ? and the Dehaze filter under effects .

PS ; Dehaze is also a part of LR ........

Cheers Buthi and good night , Andreas

I think all of us here at Wildlife and around the world are keeping our fingers crossed for the future of these big guys Andre, like the front on POV, with Andreas last RP taking this to where it belongs.

Hi Andre, cool POV, although if you have it, more space above. I think you could have upped the SS more, changing setting and matrix, has it worked???? A bit unfortunate with the OOF vegetation on the LHS at the foot, just jars a little against the clear vegetation, but nothing you could have done without some PP changes.

When I saw the OP my first impression was it needed more depth, had a play, but then saw all the other RP, well here's another to to add to the options. i also think some additional sharping helps too. BTW have you seen the idea of painting the horns a gorgeous shade of pink???

    Hi Steve

    Welcome back!
Yours has more detail than mine, like it!
Have more space above, cropped only from sides for comp.
Giving Matrix a try, just had time to try once- had kids with us in car- have not shot enough images under a variety of conditions to give an opinion.
What is your reasoning with even faster SS- sharpness?

I have not yet seen any pink horns...? It will give the bulls a massive complex, not to mention us photographers..
    Regards

    Andre.
