From a couple weeks ago, here is a common subject, but quite nice looking in his own right.

Nice low angle shot, Grace. As you said it is a common subject but looks fabulous indeed. The red leaf adds interest. Actually I really like the foreground golden and blue.

Hi Grace, killer low shooting angle - looks like you were in the water. He gave you the perfect pose, and in turn, the light has brought out the greens of the head very well. I really like the splash of orange of the leaf, I thought it was his foot. Comp wise, whilst we dont often see a two tone FG in water, I honestly feel coming up from the bottom to the split of the blue and orange strengthens the comp so much more.

Wonderful shot Grace, have looked at it with cropping to lose the golden bit at the bottom and think I like it more without it, very mush a personal choice as I'm sure you will understand, just shows what you can do with a so called common bird, excellent work.

    Grace:

Your low angle was the perfect way to deal with the cluttered water. Leaf adds an extra note of interest. I can see the crop as posted, and some off the bottom as Keith mentioned as well. AS posted, it accentuates the low POV.

    Cheers

Love the low perspective and the killer light angle, its covering the duck perfectly. Nice colors and details and the oak leaf adds a splash of color and interest. Nice work Grace.

Now if only you had the lens half under so the feet could be seen Excellent shot in all respects.

    Love this one Grace!
Oak leaf color is very neat.
Agree that the super low POV and 2 toned FG really set this shot apart from others. Mallard IQ is perfect,

What a special and unique image you have created here. I imagine most of us would have surveyed this scene from a different angle and not seen what you obviously found and are sharing with us here. It reminds us to move around, try different heights and angles to see if there might just be that window of opportunity.

Thanks to everyone who looked and commented. I will tell you that I did not go to this site dressed appropriately for low angle shots (jeans) and hence came home a giant mess. But what else can a girl do when the water is a mess but the subject is just demanding to be photographed. :)

If a moderator would fix my title, I'd appreciate it. I meant for it to be a theme image and tried unscuccessfully to edit after I posted it. Not a big deal but thanks, if you can.
