This is the same displaying drake hooded merganser as my post yesterday. This is certainly not the pose we normally see in this forum, but I like the striking patterns of the head and tertial feathers (I expect that female mergansers do also :) ). 40D, 500 f/4 + 1.4x, 1/640, f/6.3, ISO 400. Comments are welcome.

    I like this one Steve,
Your duck looks like a submarine leaving port...:D:p;):) I like the framing on this one. The colors are great and the details are sharp... I like the vertical white tracer feathers on the back...COOL...

This is a really nice "out of the box" view of the species. You may depend this aspect is never shown in field guides! I love the colour of the BG and the reflection of the bird in the water. Unique!

Very unusual and a particularly interesting shot.

Talk about avoiding eye contact, mission accomplished. Very pretty shot.

Great exposure control, light and water colors. I like the composition.

I've never really focused on the feathers tips of the crest...great view! The water color is a big bonus too. Nice work.

Neat shot Steve. I like the golden color of the BG and those racing stripe feathers on the back. Interesting view of the head and the tiny bit of eye visible on the right makes this one work.
