    Default Ground Hornbill..not Grounded

Captured this image in Kruger Park, Sept 2015.
I shoot ETTR, but had a dilemma to process this.
There are deep blacks, some whites and a busy background. If you pull on exp, you choke the blacks...
Shot @ 7.1 to get enough DOF with BIF, but then the BG...
It is almost FF, with minimal crop for comp.
With the help of a good friend, I tried my hand at double processing and blending it in PS CC.
    Any crits /suggestions welcome...

    Techs: Nikon D3S with 500f4
    1/2000 @ 7.1
    ISO 1600
    +2/3 EV

Hi Andre, I like the incoming pose with wings down, great to see a less common specie. I also like your pano crop. Good eye contact and head angle.

The light was a bit on the harsh side here and the image is too contrasty and a bit over-sharpened (notice the jagged lines along the secondaries and highlight edges). I would tone down the contrast, tone down the red channel and reduce the sharpening a bit to make it look less harsh.

The BG is on the busy side but I imagine it is tough to come up with a nice BG at this location.

    Hi Arash

Loaded red channel as selection, did curve adjustment.
Backed off on sharpening for web, think that's where contrasty look came from.
The Red around eyes and Sac is normally very red, no enhancement.

    WDYT?

Hi Andre, kudos for getting this guy in flight, as they are normally scavenging through the tall grasses. Great wing position, and your RP sorted out the high contrast - Well done.
