This is another image from my backyard set-up. Last week I posted the female on the opposite side of this perch. I choose this head angle so the red patch would be more visible. All C&Cs are welcome and appreciated.

This side-on perspective seems best for a bird on a tree trunk. I love the composition, the background, and the fact that the tree trunk is not at all distracting.
A more eye-level perspective may have left me with more of a feeling of connection with the bird, as here it seems like he is looking over my head.
Classic woodpecker, super clarity and colours spot on. For those in the UK who haven't seen this bird in the flesh, they are small woodpeckers similar to out lesser spot, not easy birds to get good shots of.
Not sure how it could get any better. Perfect WP frame Jim!!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and suggestions. Keith its been a great fall over here with warmer temperatures and more sun than usual. Looks like you guys are getting a lot of rain over there.
Hi Jim, excellent IQ, light and detail, and well exposed on both the whites and blacks. Good DOF throughout the image, tack sharp, and I do like the look of the bark on your tree set up.
