    Default Ghost in Elephant Grass

Hi folks my last contribution to this month theme before it is over .

This is one of the surprise moments in photographers life , you are on the lookout to find your target and you look and look with the help of local guides ..... nothing happening for over 1/2 hour , and all of a sudden this massive ghost became visible through the Elephant grass that even the elephant and the mahout was surprised about the presence of this BIG ghost .So this image is taken from the back of a riding elephant somewhere in India .I was happy to get that low angle from the height of an elephant . I know some stuff is not ideal like all the grass floating criss cross in the image , but the eye is clearly visible and as being a off standard clear shot i think this grass mess does make it more interesting .
Well at least for me .

    Canon EOS 1D MK IIn
    EF 100-400 IS L at 180 mm
    HH from moving elephant back

    F 4,5 ; Iso 800 ; 1/350 sec

Processed with Dpp and PS CC ; cropped for comp to 75 % of FF .

Thanks for looking and commenting to my last posting .

A good look at that eye & single horn Andreas, the tall elephant grass portrays the place well (those who know of it) and you got a nice angle here.

Hi Andreas - I rather like this (and I seem to remember you felt the same way about my similar though wider leopard shot). It gives a good sense of the dense habitat but the eye and much of the head is still visible. Only thing I might do is tone down the brightest grass that loops up by the ear.

Andreas my first reply to you as someone new!! Your images are spectacular and that is not just because I'm not traveled and seeing these animals wild is but a dream,it's the heart and abiltiy that captivates me.

I really love the colours in the grass,I have no real conception of this habitat, but I think it's almost miraculous that the eye is clear and a ghost can be so big Andreas,I have to say that if the rhino was clear of all this vegetation for me it would make for a less interesting picture I also love the light draped over his head, just lovely this thanks for sharing

Hi Andreas -- Great image here that captures the Indian one-horned rhino's typical habitat in this wonderful park - I loved our visit their last February (deliberately not naming the park here). It is amazing how these beasts can just disappear into the long elephant grass and then reappear from nowhere, so your title "ghost" is very fitting. I love that you managed to get a clear view of the eye and most of the horn. I agree with Rachel about possibly toning down the lightest grass near the ear; very minor issue though. Fantastic shot, especially given that you got such a good angle despite being high up on elephant back. Cheers!

    Hi Andreas

    You defenitely have his attention..

The pose is intimidating, POV effective..
Stunning detail on Rhino, did you use TK in PP?

I am still unsure about the image content: busy, eye makes contact with the eye, but wanders again...maybe a very tight crop? Again, just my POV..

Your Buthi in Africa with his own ideas..
    Regards

    Andre.

Thank you so much folks for your kind wording and grateful comments , much appreciated .

Rachel - yes could be brother images from that POV , still remember the shot very clearly and i liked it straight away without any further thinking . I can tone down the lighter grass stem and i think i will get more attention to the eye , so thanks for pointing this out .

Buthi - i could have bet if you would comment , you might say something along the lines like you did regarding the messy surroundings , i was also thinking does it work for me or not - but finally i became friend with this image . And for sure i used TK for this , like i do with every image ..... every image !!!! Can you find out what i did ? I used the TK panel 6 times for this images as i needed 6 masks !!! Sound complex but it is not !!

    Thanks again folks cheers andreas

Hi Andreas -- very well done in focusing amidst the grass , especially with a tiny bit of sunlight . I like these type of images and you have managed to showcase one .

One of your best images you have posted here on Wildlife Andreas, and to me not a candidate for the theme at all, but deserves merit on it's own.

Love the dappled light and grass habitat here and as you say, if you have the eye clear it all comes together.
What's also special is the way you have symmetry between the ears and the blades of grass, I do agree with toning down the RHS curved grass.
