Default Up close and personal - ISO 12,800

An interesting few moments when this guy suddenly surfaced, zero time to think about composition, but enough time to dial in some settings, but a bit of a frame filler even with the 70-200!!! No problem pushing the ISO (12,800), leaving the techs on 'old school' and you would miss everything, but also having the AF set-up correctly (i.e. Case settings) plays a part too, leaving them on 'factory default', do that and you might as well buy a point & shoot .

Wonderful look at those eyes Steve. Awesome IQ for such a high ISO. Perfect colours and comp works for me. TFS. The guy/gal must have been breathing down your neck (70-200)

Not sure who was more surprised Sanjeev, but pushing the ISO means getting the capture and that is what it's all about, as you can deal with any noise in PP. Shooting with a low SS is a recipe for disaster, and these new bodies as I have said before, are built for it, it's only the hesitancy that holds people back.

Ooops i would call this a dangerous close up ....... what was the actual focal length ? 200 ?

I absolutely like this one and for that high Iso it came out very nice at this size . Great overall concept , if there was a concept !! If not, you did very well and got a great surprise shot .
Well processed as always , Steve . I just wish i could see you in his eyes and see how you look .

Great work Maestro . Enjoyed watching it and will look at the frame again .

    TFS Andreas

I think Andreas 'concept' went out the window, more 'flying by the seat of my pants!'

I just wish i could see you in his eyes and see how you look
This was a stroll in the park, the one you really would have like to have seen was the the Lion charge when Rachel was with me, I too would have like to have seen that one! That is what make Wildlife fun, the occasional 'reality' check.

I am with you regarding the `reality check ´, no footage of the acton ?
I remember my last visit to India to the place where to see the " Armored Warriors " .......... i jumped off the Gypsy to go down to a 3.5 meter king cobra for low POV shots , all folks on the gypsy went mad and yelled at me i should come back to the car, but i said no ...... just hang on i need this low POV !!!
They did not get it........ but i got the shots i wanted , well for todays view they could have been better .

Hi Steve - You know I like these frame filling shots so this works for me on all counts. Only thing I might try is to soften the edge of the fur on the nearer part of the face on the lhs as we look at it. I'll send you an email showing where I am talking about b/c that's not a specific enough description. Are you going back for the bears in June too?

    TFS,
    Rachel

No, Bots as you know, just working on an itinerary for the Bears, but a different white bear perhaps? BTW I see there was a familiar face swing by.

Awesome close-up of this majestic creature, love the eyes, nice DOF, good thinking Sir

Cheers Jon, over the last year, pushing the ISO has been interesting, but also software has also moved on and so addressing any issues or concerns has eased. But for me, I just love to get the opportunity to shoot and Bears are perhaps my favourite subjects .

Totally spectacular!! The frame filling face is so impressive and those eyes are mesmerizing! Good your lens could focus so closely. I hope to remember your excellent advice on not to be afraid of increasing the ISO. Possibly I need it as a tatoo on my trigger finger !
