    Default Right in my backyard

Well, I was heading out for work and I heard this sqawking. I looked up and there right on the branch above my garage was this Juvenile red-shouldered hawk. I think this is correct, but please correct if wrong. We have several pairs of red-shouldered hawks in the neighborhood with nests and when I looked in the book it seemed correct. The feathers seem quite darker than the adult. But, anyway, I ran in and got my camera and got off some images. Usually they come in and sit on branches that are just no good for an image, but this time I was able to get the far trees as a backgound without any branches close by, except for the perch. Taken with the D300, Nikon 70-300VR, ec +.3, f 7.1, 1/500, iso 400.

Thanks for looking and all C&C welcomed:)

Great find, I like the pose light and details and think your ID is correct. I might blur the BG a bit.

    Nancy,

I like the position of the bird and the perch is nice (good detail in it that is pleasing). This would have been a perfect time to use fill-flash to open up the shadows and remove the flatness of the dappled light.

Thanks all for the comments. Yes, a bit of fill would have been nice, but timing did not allow. Hopefully he will be around this weekend again and I will have more time to set up. I have my camera and BB at the ready.

Congratulations Nancy !! Nice find in your own backyard. Really like the alert pose and the excellent detail and composition. I agree with Robert on the fill flash. Hope you have the opportunity to see him again.
