Hi folks , just a simple Lion passing by in busy surroundings , sadly !!
This guy walked a fair bit along Nossob River bed with truck loads of cars following him ... like myself .
One of this fantastic moments where one might concentrate more on the cars than on the lovely subject...... to not bump into one .
Funnily this guy seemed not to be affected by all the hazzle around him , finally he crossed the track , all in a very relaxed mood and made his way into the vast desert area without looking back to his " fans" . Very cool this old boy !!!

Gorgeous light on this handsome fella, and you've got a nice shot in the clearing - can't have been easy with all those obstructions in the way.

One thing that caught my eye was the OOF tree behind him which I find a little distracting as the dark line seems to blend into the darkness in his mane.

What are the objects on his cheek?

All in all a nice walking, natural looking frame if the kind of light we all desire

Thanks Mike for stopping by and leave your thoughts .
The spikes are a result of a fight with a Porcupine , some say if food is less or the folks becoming older and less powerful they go for "easier " prey . I think it is easer to catch a porcupine than to take down one of the antelopes .

You are right regarding the darker patch ..... done !

Love the light and the walking pose Andreas. The surroundings were what it was, thats nature & don't mind it. Agree with Mike that the OOF tree could be dealt with. TFS.

Lovely golden light Andreas, I see he's still carrying around a few quills, did you manage to see any of the interaction?

    A great moment Andreas.
I bet you don't feel this is a busy environment compared to Hluhluwe or Kruger haha.
It's sad that KTP has become so busy - but photographers have put it on the map I suppose. It's also not like that all year (as opposed to Kruger).
The only thing in the composition I don't like much is the red brown bush in front right...nothing you could do about that.

Hi Andreas - Lovely light and tones. I think we've seen some other images of this king. Hopefully the quills worked there way out without causing too much pain or any infection. I like the walking pose and placement in frame. I agree with Morkel about the bush in the lrc but not a deal breaker.

    Rachel

Thanks so much folks for your kind comments , much appreciated .
Marc - no sadly i did not not witness the Porcupine fight .

Rachel yes you have seen this guy before , and i am with you and Morkel regarding the red shrub in LRC , but to take it out and keep it looking realistic is a bit difficult to me . And i am not willing to do so in all honesty .

    Cheers Andreas

    Hi Buthi

Even with cars around to test and probe you to the limit- shooting the King in this light is a pleasure a non-photographer would not comprehend...
Glad you gardened the tree growing out of his neck...would go a bit closer to mane.

The Red in the bushes.. I know you only do global adjustments.. would do painted mask as they are pulling the eye from the Man with the quills, ever so slightly, but still...

Were where we? (not behind you..?)
    Regards

    Andre.

Thanks Andre........ you have been already close to Hluhluwe , was during my last days in Twee Rivieren .
I am fine with the darker blob above the mane .
My Buthi ........ i have a question ...... since when do i only global adjustments ?????????? Me the mask man and TK dealer ........ 95 % of my PS work is somehow localized .
Again i could have tried , but skipped that as i will not win a prize with this shot .

Thanks again my big Buthi .

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, great light and a regal/majestic beast for sure.

The quills tell a story of a painful counter, one I assume will not be repeated, trust they eventually fell out and did not become infected. Like the walk in angle and raised paw, the environment is what it is, nothing you could do, well done.

    Dearest Andreas,

I like your golden boy in golden light here, I am so familiar with the vegetation in the KTP that nothing bothers me in the surroundings, LOL. I love the way you processed this, emphasis on the subject and the grassy bits in the FG not too overwhelming.

The quills can be a problem as the wounds might become infected, I hope this did not happen though...

I too like the pose and the raised paw, some blood on it from the encounter with the porcupine. Nice detail, warmth and colours Andreas, well composed and presented - thank you so much for sharing, I enjoyed this image, makes me look forward to my KTP visit in Feb 2016!

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Andreas -- lovely light and a majestic animal ! the quill adds to the harsh environment around it and would take it as it comes . TFS !
